Isn't that what a book can do? In my experience, the use of text can often be at best, redundant, and at worst, a distraction. When Alex used text for his mushroom film, it was used as part of bigger idea - i.e. the text was being downloaded to somekind of vessel or probe - the text helped audiences experience it as a sci-fi narrative.
