I really like the idea of the beauty parlour being a metafor for a lab where people are experimented on and only in the eyes of the scientist are thay made beautyful. To the rest of the world it might be looked on very diffently. This helps to put across how the scientist in this case is a loose cannon and playing God. Like how Brundle in The Fly is playing God and believes himself to be getting better and becoming more advanced in his own twisted reasoning.
